Triple DES
Triple DES - also known as Triple Data Encryption Standard or 3DES - is an advanced encryption mandated by MasterCard and Visa. This mandate means that all ATM's that accept either of these cards have to be Triple DES compliant or they will no longer be allowed to process orders without being upgraded in some way.
In order to become Triple DES compliant, an ATM has to encrypt a users PIN not just once as most machines built before 2002 did, but three times before the ATM sends the information to the processor for authorization. There are a couple ways that a non-compliant ATM can be made compliant:
- Replace non-compliant machines with new ones that are already Triple DES compliant
- Install Triple DES upgrade kits that will make your ATM's compliant
ATM Express can help you with your compliancy problems regardless of the route you decide to take and can ensure that any new ATM we sell will also be Triple DES compliant. We can also help you navigate what can be rather tricky waters when it comes to Triple DES upgrades. A lot of unscrupulous companies are trying to use scare tactics in an attempt to get unknowledgeable ATM owners to upgrade or replace their ATMs when they don't need to or before they need to. ATM Express can help you determine the right solution for you without any pressure.
